07. February’s Highlights
A look at what’s been fueling my excitement lately—from trail running to women’s sports and more!
February has flown by, and with plenty of bad news available out there, I wanted to focus this newsletter on some of the things that have filled me with hope, and excitement lately: in Trail Running, Women Sports, and more! Do share with people if you think they would enjoy reading this, or listening to the podcast.
With love,
Julia
Real talks
The latest campaign from Arsenal Women FC talking about sports and period leaks, this being one of the reason girls don’t do as much sports growing up!
Immy Sykes researched and wrote an article on one of the main barriers for female to get into cycling: saddle discomfort. Must Read! or watch her latest reel on instagram about it too.
More hormone talks, we’re not alone in this. While hormonal issues are often underestimated, navigating them—especially in sports or running—can be a real journey.
Conley Thompson talked about the year after getting off birth control and the acne that followed on this video. Jo Meek, one of the awesome guest from the pod, also shared her experience recently with hormones on her instagram.
I also saved this one a while ago, truly exciting if this succeeds!!:
On my TBR list
Renee McGregor who I had the huge pleasure of having on the pod too, talked to us about her next book.. and it’s now out!! Fuel for Thought (what a name). Can’t wait to read this one and get some takeaways for my trail running adventures!
Also on my list: The Future of the Responsible Company, What We've Learned from Patagonia's First 50 Years
Mood Boost
At 23, Violette became the youngest sailor in history to complete the Vendee Globe, an unassisted, around the world, race. I loved following her journey around the world, and I was one of so many to root for her and admire her energy and attitude.
Fun fact: her first solo adventure as a sailor was at 15, crossing the English Channel from the Isle of Wights to Cherbourg!
Mood Boost Number 2, Tara Dower earned a golden ticket at the Black Canyon 100K with an incredible second place finish, just five months after setting the overall FKT on the AT Trail. Here for it!
Reminder
This is inspired by Maria Ledesma’s answer to my question, “what is your favourite way to spend a morning ?”, at the end of our conversation a few weeks ago. Allowing ourselves slow moments, that’s very cool.
